The Children's and Youth Theatre Workshops of HELIOS Theater

In the Children and Youth Theatre Workshops, people from 9 to 23 years of age meet to play theatre together. The participants get to know different aspects of themselves and each other in theatre exercises and experiment with different roles.

They explore theatrical means and narratives and develop their own theatrical moments and scenes which are then presented in performances on stage or in public places.

“You want to change the world? Just do it!”

This is the motto of the Ruhr-wide youth art project pottfiction. Around 70 young people of five theatres for young audiences dream up the future, make visionary theater and shape the world through action.

Young people between 16 and 23 years of age from Dortmund, Gelsenkirchen, Herne, Bochum and Hamm rehearse weekly in their groups. On three workshop weekends, they come together in a theatre to exchange about artistic means and the topic of the year: “Utopia – Dystopia”. The project ends with a big summer camp at the end of the summer holidays.

In 2017, HELIOS Theater hosted the camp next to the river Lippe in Hamm. More information about and images of the camp can be found here and on (both in German). In 2018 the camp will take place in Herne.

Struggles for power are conducted with great ideologies and utopian promises, but also with fears and dystopian visions. Is it really about the well-being of everybody? Who creates “Utopia”, and for whom?

The HELIOS Theater’s pottfiction group creates its own versions of the future: from old and new texts, associations, wishes, dreams and nightmares arise in improvisations. With sounds and images a performance in the field of tension, of good intentions and bad consequences.

Performance Dates:
Sunday, July 8th 2018, 7:00 pm
Monday, July 9th 2018, 7:00 pm

and on the Europefiction summer camp in Herne: Sunday, August 19th 2018, 6:00 pm.
