APPLAUSE! in Lünen

School theatre in two cities

We are delighted to be celebrating school theatre beyond the borders of Hamm: for this edition of the festival, we are collaborating with the Lünen School Theatre Festival. Our improv workshop for young people aged 15–20 and the Lünen Youth Theatre Club will be performing on each other’s stages. On Saturday 27 June at 7.30 pm, the play “Anderland” from Lünen will be performed at the HELIOS Theatre; in Lünen, our young people will showcase their improvisational skills in a showcase performance on Friday 26 June.

In addition, a workshop will be held for teachers and drama group leaders from the participating schools in Hamm and Lünen, organised by the respective partner, offering new ideas and in-depth specialist knowledge on school theatre.

With courage onto the (big) stage

Workshop with Lüner actor Jürgen Larys

How can you get young people to speak clearly in large spaces without constantly having to shout “Louder!”? This crash course provides directors with quick, effective tools for rehearsals. The focus is on physical presence and stage presence, connecting with fellow performers and the audience, and speaking authentically from one’s thoughts and emotions.

The course is led by Jürgen Larys, a professional actor specialising in voice and speech, with training in breathing, body and voice work (“natural voice”).

This workshop took place on 19 March at the HELIOS Theatre.

Ways to a character

Workshop with Anne Haupt from the HELIOS theatre pedagogy

How do actors move from the script to a role? How can they develop a multi-layered character? And how can you, as a director, support this process? This two-hour workshop explores these questions.

We will explore different approaches to a role and, in doing so, develop our own character. In keeping with the focus on ‘internal and external perception’ at this year’s Junges Theater Lünen festival, we will use techniques that influence our acting through the body – that is, from the outside in. Furthermore, we will use methods that stem from our imagination and with which we develop our character from the inside out.

This workshop took place on the 16th of April.

ANDERLAND

Theatre Youth Club – Friends of Lünen Theatre Association

for ages 11+

“There’s No Business Like Show Business,” thought seven young people, and they headed for the heart of the entertainment industry: New York. Or, to be more precise, Brooklyn – as these young idealists can’t afford Manhattan. Instead, they live in a somewhat run-down apartment block and wait for their big break. A strange ringing sound lures them to the lift – which promptly transports them to “Anderland”. This realm of dreams is ruled by Zavrok, an evil wizard who runs an “Academy of Fame” – and who wants to establish himself as the sole ruler once and for all. Were it not for his brother, the wise hermit Bavarion, and his sister Saphira, who tends a herb garden.
Will the young dreamers achieve their goals? Can Zavrok claim ultimate victory? And what of the banished Queen Aurelia and her beautiful daughter Na Hee-Do?
These are just some of the mysteries that will be unravelled this evening.
An imaginative, profound yet enchantingly light-hearted dream journey by the ensemble of the Lünen Youth Theatre Club.
