Follow the Yarn

The clatter of knitting needles, big piles of wool which shape into singular, delicate figures and dissolve again, the performers who snuggle up in warming scarves and cosy bonnets…

In the HELIOS production “Follow the Yarn” directed by Barbara Kölling, the performers Helena Aljona Kühn, Anna-Sophia Zimniak and Michael Lurse are following the wool’s track. They examine the textile’s qualities: wool is cosy, scratchy, warming, fine or coarse, tidily wrapped or untidily entangled - and a sociable fabric. For centuries, mostly women were sitting together and knitted wool while chatting about love, life and rumours. The musician Roman D. Metzner creates a matching soundscape by interweaving the sounds of clattering knitting needles, murmuring voices and rhythmical instruments.
